The Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox are both battling for the final playoff spot in the American League.

On Monday, the two teams will kick off an important three-game series in Seattle that will have implications in the AL wild-card race.

Red Sox vs. Mariners prediction

(9:40 p.m. ET)

On the mound for Seattle will be George Kirby (9-8, 3.49 ERA), who has been roughed up in two of his past three starts when he allowed 11 runs in just 9.0 innings.

However, Kirby has pitched well overall this season, allowing two runs or fewer in 13 starts.

One of those outings came against Boston back in May. Kirby gave up one run over 6 ²/₃ innings in a 10-1 Mariners win.

The Red Sox counter with Nick Pivetta (7-5, 4.11 ERA).

Pivetta has been one of the better pitches in baseball over the past few weeks, compiling a 1.98 ERA in 41 innings.

He had been mostly relegated to the bullpen of late but he has been dominant as their long reliever, and gets another chance to start for Boston tonight.

The Under is 6-2 in Kirby’s last eight starts and 7-2 in Bello’s previous nine outings.

I’m riding that trend and expect another Under to cash on Monday.
